WAATI AGM 2009


The Western Australian Association of Teachers of Italian held their AGM on March 6th at the Oxford Hotel. We were delighted to open our meeting with our guest speaker The Consul of Italy Doctor Giorgio Taborri. The Committee of 2008 was farewelled and thanked. We truly appreciate the efforts of our Vice President Luciano Pinto, our caterer Valentina Sciascia, our Exchange Assistant Maria Lo Presti and our general committee member Alicia Aitken. We wish all them well in their future. We would like to welcome our new committee members for 2009. President Bianca Petale, Vice President Fulvia Valvasori, Secretary Paula O’Donnell, Treasurer Esther Aulsebrook and our general committee members Melissa Elpitelli, Angela Signorile, Marissa Velardo, Carmelina Andrews, Marinella Caruso, Mirella Kerrigan and Nicola Aquilia. Fulvia Valvasori also presented an outstanding achievement award to St Norbert College, accepted by Miss Cynthia Carrington for her continued support of the Intercultura Exchange program and holding the record for hosting 9 exchange students!

MLTAWA AGM – Hilde Dixon Award

We would like to congratulate current WAATI committee member Angela Signorile on receiving the Hilde Dixon Award at MLTAWA’s AGM late last year. The Hilde Dixon Award is named after Hilde Dixon, a wonderfully talented and compassionate teacher who had a passion for languages education and a commitment to social justice. This award recognizes and congratulates local contributions of excellence in the teaching of languages and the commitment to languages education. It is also designed to increase the status of the languages teaching profession. Congratulations on this outstanding achievement Angela! Well done!

DANTE ALIGHIERI ASSOCIATION

The Dante Alighieri Society is offering classes in the Italian Language culminating in the award of the PLIDA Certification of Italian which is recognised in Italy as evidence of proficiency for foreign speakers of Italian.
